Lawton Indian Health Service Diabetes Program, Lawton, OK January 2000- November 2007
Counseling Psychologist

Provide mental health counseling and lifestyle adaptation techniques for individuals, couples and families managing diabetes. Develop and implement mental health treatment plans, document client progress, case consultation and appropriate referrals. Counsel in two IHS clinics within service unit. Design and develop culturally relevant treatment, education materials. Quarterly publication of program newsletter for diabetes awareness. Assist in the development and implementation of community training and awareness for diabetes prevention and intervention. Serve on American Diabetes Association national project team for development and delivery Native American programming throughout the United States.

School-to-Work Career Counselor

Developed and implemented School-to-Work Initiative administered by the Delaware Tribe. Designed and established a comprehensive integrated Career Center. Recognized as a best practice by the National STW Office. Participated in and created partnerships involving state, local and tribal agencies and businesses. Prepared monthly program reports to RIS School board and Tribal Executive Committee. Counseled students on career decisions, personal management and life skills development. Organized and developed related training for staff and students. Designed ten school-based enterprises with teachers and staff. Overall development and implementation of all School-to-Work Activities. Developed pilot program with Law Enforcement personnel and High Risk Youth.

Fort Sill Apache Emergency Youth Shelter, Apache, Oklahoma June 1994- Aug. 1995
Shelter Director

Planned, directed and coordinated all activities of shelter. Established work plans and staffing. Prepared project reports and evaluation for management and funding sources. Coordinated with government and state agencies for licensing and services. Supervised and evaluated 16 employees. Administered shelter funding from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Family Violence Prevention Grant, HUD Emergency Shelter Grant, and Homeless Prevention Program. Developed annual operating budgets for programs. Responsible for budget control, personnel schedules and supervision. Case histories and plans relating to clients. Counseled residents and clients. Wrote, developed and submitted grants for additional program funding. Designed and implemented Homeless Prevention Program targeting 20 Native American Families assisting with finances and development of a comprehensive continuum of care program.

Designed and implemented all phases of lesson plans for a fully self-contained classroom. Developed a health and guidance curriculum meeting the needs of high-risk Native American adolescents. Performed all required duties of a classroom teacher.

Performed all small business functions in the purchasing and marketing of Native American art, clothing and jewelry.

Browning Middle School, Browning, Montana 1987-1990
Teacher - Seventh Grade Reading and Language Arts

Designed and developed Native based curriculum and implemented lesson plans. Assisted in the development and implementation of the Middle School Disciplinary Policy. Operated under team interdisciplinary plan with all seventh grade teachers. Acted as student advisor to 15 students per day. Performed all required duties of a classroom teacher.
